Recent Experience

Mr. Deutsch is a Division Scientist in the Collaborative Systems Group within the Distributed Systems Department at BBN Technologies. He has been actively involved in human performance modeling for 15 years and has 35 years of simulation experience dating back to the use of simulation to support the development of flight code for NASA’s Project Apollo.

Mr. Deutsch is the principal investigator for the D-OMAR project, an Air Forced Research Laboratory (AFRL) effort to develop a new version of Operator Model Architecture (OMAR) to operate in a distributed computing environment. D-OMAR is designed to operate both as framework in which to build agent-based systems and in which to develop human performance models. Mr. Deutsch led the development of the original OMAR suite of software tools for human performance modeling. He was also made important contributions to the development of the psychological framework that forms the basis for several human performance models developed using the OMAR tool set.

Mr. Deutsch was principal investigator for the Vehicle/Aircrew Procedure and Control Modeling task at the NASA Ames Research Center. Working on the NASA Aviation Safety/Automation Program, he developed simulation models to portray flight crew situation awareness, and the complex information flow between flight crews and air traffic controllers using conventional radio-based communication and advanced Data Link communications automation.
